One of the popular accessories available for the portable Nintendo DS video game system are the colorized protective layers called “skins”, used to shield the game system from damage while looking good at the same time. The usual color arraignments — such as monochromes or patterns — are available in nearly any electronics or video game store, but more diverse or rare skins are on the market, especially straight from Internet accessory providers. One of the most popular such designs is a covering with themes from the blockbuster teen vampire movie “Twilight.” These classy, stylish DS skins are more difficult to find, but come in a wide array of colors and textures.
The Twilight DS skins — like those themed on other major movies or video games — have multiple layers that require folding over to be applied onto a Nintendo DS. When folded over, a portrait on the large back of the Gameboy features one of the stars of the vampire genre. Of the characters in the movie, the moody, love-struck main character Edward Cullen is available to sport on the back of a Gameboy, staring off into the distance with Bella at his side. Bella herself, the flighty but plucky heroine of the vampire saga, is another Twilight DS skin, looking ever nervous but resolute in the face of her paramour’s way of life. The last in the character genre is that of Jacob, the werewolf nemesis of the vampire clans. One design is available with the cult “Team Jacob” purple coloring, which is an out-of-film reference to the preference of some fans for Jacob’s personality and agenda.
Each design costs approximately ten dollars, which is about twice the normal cost of DS textures. The extra price, however, is certainly worth the novelty and intricacy of the design, especially for the younger fans of the books and films who demand only the best. Along with these skin designs, there are Nintendo DS Gameboy games based on the movie as well as the popular Scene It interactive television game. Fans — especially younger fans — want to customize the look and feel of their Nintendo DS to accentuate (or proclaim their loyalties!) with a stylish and trendy outerlay. The Twilight DS skin is an excellent gift idea, especially for fussy and difficult to shop for fans of the movies. As with most popular films, the vampire saga has resulted in a large amount of merchandising, and this particular product is among the most distinct.
